Week 2 of Alicante!

This past week has been what I consider to be a routine week in Alicante. Class everyday from 10-3 has been getting longer and longer but I am still enjoying it. I've had to get a coffee in my class break everyday so I don't fall asleep in class. Actually it is called Leche Manchada which is more like milk with a splash of coffee. It is really yummy and has barely any coffee but just enough caffeine to keep me awake and it is only .35 euros. Its kinda cool I get it out of a vending machine right outside my classroom and they come in these small cute little cups.

After school I did various things this week. I went with Alex (a girl from my program who is in my class) and we found a normal mall! It was super exciting cause in the mall we found a store that is similar to Walmart back home. It is definitely Walmart prices compared to the major store they have here called the El Corte Ingles. While we were there I decided I wanted to buy stuff to bake something. Well let me tell you I don't think people in Spain ever bake anything because it was SO hard to find stuff to make even the simplest things! I finally found all of the ingredients to make Christmas Crack after searching for brown sugar for like 20 minutes. I also had to settle for buying a bar of chocolate and cutting it up because they do not have chocolate chips! Ridiculous! How could they not have chocolate chips?! We also have no measuring cups in our house so I had to kind of guess how much of each I needed. Despite my trouble creating the christmas crack it turned out just as good as ever!

I went to the same mall the next day with my roommates Garrett and Mandy and one of our other friend's Michelle. It was fun hanging out with them and I bought a really cute little weight cardigan thingy at a store called Zara. It is similar to H & M and the shirt was only 5 euros, I love rebajas! Rebajas are their sales here in Spain that happen like only twice a year and last for about a month. It is awesome cause everything is really cheap. I got here perfect time too cause it had just started!

On Wednesday I just hung out at my house and the three other boys from MC came over and used our internet and hung out for awhile it was fun. It was kind of funny cause we all had our laptops out and were doing homework around the kitchen table so I had to take a few pics.

This is where Mandy has to stand in our room to get good reception for Skype.
She was obviously having fun talking to whoever she was talking to.

On Thursday night I had three people from my class over to study for our test we had on Friday. It was fun and we were laughing hard cause for about a week we had another girl staying in our house who doesn't speak any English so we knew we sounded like idiots. It were saying it would be like someone sitting in next to us going like "rain, raining, rain, rain, rain yeah I think thats right rain." I don't you might have needed to be there to find the humor in it.

Friday night Garrett, Michelle, Britta and I all hung out at our place until 12:00 and then headed out to go dancing and such. It was ridiculous cause when we first got out there were barely any people out yet so we walked around to see if we could find anybody else from our group. We eventually ran into a few other people and we went dancing with them. It is really weird to be able to just walk into a discotecca or bar and not have to be carded. I didn't get home until 4:30 which I consider late but most people would consider that early. Most people just stay out until the buses start running again at 6:00!

Saturday afternoon Mandy, Garrett, and I made lunch for our host mom. It was Mandy's idea, she wanted to make a southern meal so we made fried chicken, mashed potatoes, and lima beans. We were also going to make cornbread but didn't have any baking powder so we scratched that idea and attempted to make Mexican Cornmeal that turned into a flop. Everything else turned out pretty darn good. We all pitched in too. Garrett peeled the potatoes (with a knife, Pepita doesn't have a peeler), I breaded the chicken, mashed the potatoes and pretty much just heated up the lima beans, and Mandy cut and fried the chicken. Unfortunately I wasn't that hungry but I enjoyed what I did eat. I don't think Pepita really cared for eat but whatever we all did.

Saturday night the Alicante Hercules futbol team had a game so a small group of us went. It was me, four other girls from my group and three of the guys from Mississippi College. It was so windy and cold but it was still lots of fun. At half time the four other girls left, but I actually wanted to see the game so I stayed with the boys. We won 1-0!

When we first got there the stadium wasn't that full because most people were out at the bars getting ready for the game, but once it started the stadium filled up pretty good.

More to come: I am planning on hiking up to the castle some time this week when there are blue skies so I can get some good pictures. So that will come later this week. I will also let you know what the weather has been like and how the food is here. And I will also let you know how I did on my test! Also today I took pictures of my apartment while Pepita was gone so I will post them so you can see what it looks like. But for now I am off to bed and I think I gave you enough to read for one time. Night and I love you all. Thanks for reading!
